Belle & Bloom Restaurant Reviews - A Series; Meet Ashleigh

Born and Bred in Sydney, Ashleigh joined the Belle & Bloom team a few months ago as our handbag, accessory and footwear designer (COMING SOON!). Ashleigh designs pieces that dream are made of. We sat down with Ashleigh to talk about one of her favourite restaurants in Sydney, Nel, and her recent encounter with it.

 

Tucked away in Surry Hills lives bunker-esq spot, Nel, and it's unrepeatable fine-dining experience.  What makes Nelly Robinsons' modern Australian eatery so unique is it's seasonal reinvention of menu and theme. Once gone, the dishes are never to be tasted again.

The current themed menu and decor is the, 'Great British Menu'.

At the degustation dinner, Ashleigh channelled her inner Princess Kate donning our lush Liberty Brushed Coat and the Just Because Leather Bag.

She dined on fish cake, smoked salmon with prawns, chive lime, smoke caviar, lobster foam and herb salad, a take on a British pub classic. 

Next was the British staple, jellied and smoked eel with custard & tomato.

'A Bear Called Paddington', her favourite drink of the evening made from Poor Tom’s Gin, marmalade, butter syrup, lemon and toast corner garnish was the jewel in her crown.

The night ended with an almost too rich dessert, a bakewell tart with a frangipane and blackberry accent.

 

 

 

Previous themes have included Disney's Once Upon a Time featuring a dish name, Donald á Paris, a Confit duck leg with chilli, Genie gin cocktails and Chip Pisco 'tea'.

 

 

Come Australian summer, Nel introduces yet another bespoke menu, Christmas Dinner.

Dine on ham glazed and mustard orange surrounded the ultimate snowed in decor.

For the lovers, it's edible holly and snapper. Kiss me Kate!

An extremely good reason to pull out your Princess Anne Blazer Dress and cheers to the season full of beach trips and sun-kissed skin.

 

The last theme we'd like to tip our hats to is, The Land & Sea.

You guest it, this menu is full of ingredients that come from the Australia land and sea. The lux meal persuades you to wear your new Quilted Leather Cross Body in black, lavish knows lavish.

Some of our favourites from the menu we'll never be able to feast on again include the ocean pearler with pickled cucumber and oyster emulsion.

Dubbed, 'Beach Pebbles', our favourite creation of the night embraced local flavours to highlight ocean trout mousse  and golden trout caviar.

 

 

 

Special mention to a twist on the textbook Australian breakfast, Weet-Bix, for dessert. Served with milk, milk custard, puffen grain Weet-Bix ice cream and Dulce de leche.

Wear you Red Ex-Boyfriend Coat, your blue Flare Up Fly Front Jeans and white  Without You Cable Knit to keep warm and share your Australian love for Nel and his take on the tastes that will spark childhood memory of simpler times.
